Islamist rebels who seized Syria’s second-largest city, Aleppo, continued to push south on Sunday, a huge embarrassment for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his military. The insurgents’ advance comes at a time when Assad’s allies — Iran and groups it backs and Russia — are preoccupied with their own conflicts.
