Explosion at Spanish mine kills at least four

At least four people have died and two are missing after an explosion at a mine in northern Spain, officials say.

The blast happened at the Cerredo mine in Degaña, Asturias, some 450km (278 miles) north-west of Madrid around 09:30 local time (08:30 BST).

At least three others were injured, according to local emergency services, and a search is under way for the missing workers. Fire and rescue services have been sent to the scene.

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez sent his condolences to the families of the victims.
